Can Solid Edge licensing be run on Docker in a Linux environment?
Solution
Docker is a container application used for creating stand-alone packages of software.
A container is similar to a virtual machine (VM).
Just like any other virtual machine configuration, so long as the licensing dongle can be read by the container's USB (or use unique host id method to avoid need for a dongle) and the container can be accessed by the clients across the network for license traffic calls, then there should be no issues with running Solid Edge licensing in a container.
However, a container differs from a VM in that a container shares the underlying operating system of the physical hosting server. Therefore if the underlying container server is running Windows, then Solid Edge licensing should run without issue. However, if the underlying container is running Linux, then Solid Edge licensing will not run as Solid Edge licensing is not supported on Linux.
