What is a Solid Edge Unique Host ID License, and why do you need a MAC Address to run it with Solid Edge?

Solution

Unique Host ID

A Unique Host ID License uses a host ID (or hostid) as an identifier unique to a particular computer which is used by FLEXnet to lock licenses to a particular machine. This Floating License method performs the same tasks as a Standard Floating License, but does not use a dongle. Instead, the license is tied to the MAC address of the Ethernet card on the computer that contains the License Manager software.

To find the MAC address for your network or Ethernet card you can do the following:

  • Open a command prompt window.
    • Type in "ipconfig /all" and press Enter. This will display your network configuration.
      • Find your adapter's physical address. Scroll down to your network adapter and look for the values next to "Physical Address," which is your MAC address.
