What is a Dongle, and do you need it to run Solid Edge?
Solution
A Dongle is a hardware key device used with Solid Edge's Floating License manager. This hardware key is usually a small USB device that plugs into your computer and works with the software to provide licensing in a floating license configuration. The dongle plugs into the USB port of the license server computer. In addition to the USB Dongle Solid Edge still supports the older Parallel Port Dongle.

You do not need a Dongle to run Solid Edge if you are using any of the following licensing options:
• Unique Host ID Floating License
• Node-locked (standalone)
• Cloud-Enabled,
• Home
• Travel
• Emergency Licensing
