When drawings are heavily loaded with graphic elements, zooming in and out using the mouse wheel is very time consuming - as each small movement of the mouse wheel causes a zoom and a refresh. How can this be alleviated?

For this kind of drawing, use of the zoom tool is more appropriate. Adding the zoom tool to your radial menu will assist by making it more accessible.
Optimal mouse-based view manipulation will be:
- MMB or RMB + Ctrl + Drag (zoom)
- MMB or RMB+Alt+Drag (zoom area)
- MMB + double click or RMB + Alt (fit window)
- MMB+Shift+drag or RMB+Ctrl+Shift+Drag (pan)
