Summary

Details

By default JT files (.jt) are not associated to the Solid Edge application in Windows Explorer. Using 'Set your default programs' in Windows to associate JT files with Edge.exe will result in launching multiple instances of Solid Edge instead of opening the JT files into a single, already running instance of Solid Edge.

Solution

To force Windows Explorer to open JT files from Windows Explorer into a single instance of Solid Edge, add the following registry keys:

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.jt]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jt]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.jt]
@="SolidEdge.PartDocument"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jt]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jt\OpenWithList]
"a"="Edge.exe"
"MRUList"="a"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jt\OpenWithProgids]
"SolidEdge.PartDocument"=hex(0):
