Details

When editing a part in place in the context of an assembly, the surrounding geometry in the assembly is not greyed or dimmed out making working on the part in place difficult.

Solution

There is a Solid Edge option to control the dimming of surrounding geometry in the assembly when editing a part in place.

1. Select Solid Edge Options -> View.

2. Check or turn on "Dim surrounding components during in-place edit..."

3. Select "OK" to save the preference change.

The surrounding geometry will now be greyed out or dimmed when editing a part in place.
