Summary

Details

Enabling the legacy STEP translator in ST9 by setting a Registry key may throw
an error if the "Options" button is used while exporting a STEP file.

The legacy STEP translator should not be used in ST9, however it will work, and
there are occasions when you have to use it.

The error is shown after following steps:

1. Activate old STEP translator from ST8 in the registry: HKEY-CURRENT_USER -
SOFTWARE - Unigraphic Solutions - Solid Edge - Version 109 - DEBUG, DWORD
UselegacySTEPtranslator = 1.
2. Return to your file and do a 'save as' and choose STEP.
3. Click "Options"
4. You will get an error retrieving STEP options.

Solution

The reason for this is likely to be that "STEP3D.INI" is missing. To resolve
this issue you will need to copy this file from the ST8 installation to
"..\Solid Edge ST9\Preferences\Translators".
