Summary

Details

Having renamed a PMI feature, listed under the PMI node in the Part Navigator, the new name of the same feature under the Model View node does not update to reflect the change.

Solution

The PMI object listed under the PMI Node is the "PMI Object" itself and the PMI entry under the Model View is for the Display Instance of the PMI Object.  Each can have their own user-defined name.  If a PMI object has more than one Display Instance, each of those can have its own unique user-defined name.

The same Display Instance can be displayed in any number of Model Views.  To create a new Display Instance you can use either of the following:

  1. Display the PMI object on more than one Model View, and then select the Display Instance in one Model View and select "Display > Convert to New Display Instance" option from the MB3 menu.

  2. Copy/Paste the PMI Display instance from one Model View to another.

The advantage of having more than one Display Instance is that the appearance attributes of the PMI can be different between the Display Instances, while still keeping the content of the PMI the same.  For example, perhaps the placement or orientation of a PMI Object needs to be different between two  different Model Views or the size needs to be different based on the View's zoom factor.
