NX for Design

Summary

Details

---------------
NX performance is very poor when started over an RDP connection.

When NX is already running when a remote desktop session is started, the remote
graphics performance is quite OK.
When First the remote desktop sessions is started and from there NX is
launched, performance is much worse.

Solution

Important remark: Running NX over a remote desktop session is officially not
supported/certified.
Exception: NX is only certified to use remotely via Citrix XenDesktop, VMware
Horizon with nvidia grid.

Short explanation of the behavior.
When NX starts, it will look for the graphics card it uses. When this is done
before the remote desktop session. The default hardware card is used. When you
run the remote desktop, the graphics are rendered by this card.
When remote desktop is already running, NX will find the RDP driver (3D
software rendering). This is something we cannot change in NX.

Options you can try (but are not supported) is using different programs for
working with remote desktop.
You might want to consider using VNC, as RDP does not support OpenGL.
