Details

When right clicking the components in the Assembly Navigator (ANT) and selecting Delete, nothing happens. The components are not deleted but there are also no errors, no dialogs nor any Alerts explaining why the components have not been deleted.

Solution

Deleting components from an assembly can raise various warning dialogs, for example, the warning message that the associated part will not be deleted. For example:

 Delete:
 -----------------------------------------------------------------
This will remove the selected component from its parent assembly
The associated part file will not be deleted.
 [  ] Don't display this message again
 [ OK ] [Cancel]
 -----------------------------------------------------------------

These dialogs have the option: "Don't display this message again".

In the case where the component(s) cannot be deleted, we suspect that there is an underlying reason. However, the dialog explaining the reason that the component cannot be deleted has been disabled - it is likely that the delete operation simply requires confirmation from the user (in that case try hitting the Enter key to see if the components are deleted).

Although we're not entirely sure which dialog has been invoked by the delete command (and there may be several) we can revoke the dialogs disabled by selecting "Don't display this message again". Select "Preferences --> User Interface" and on the General tab select the button titled: Reset "Don't display this message again".

Repeat the delete operation again. It's likely a dialog will appear that requires some form of confirmation. However, the components should now delete successfully.
