Summary

Adding vias to pad in Cell Editor

Details

Open the cell you would like to edit in the Cell Editor.

  1. In Editor Control > Route tab expand Dialogs and open the Pad Entry dialog box, then select (directly or via cross probe from the Cell graphics) the desired pad in the pad list and check Allow via under pad (as well as other desired options), check the applicable spans, and click Apply.
  2. Select the via, Right Click > Properties > Padstack Properties, expand the Net Name drop down and select the appropriate net.

The via can then be placed under the pad.

When attempting to place vias in a cell, get message, "Cannot resolve immovable metal conflicts".

In order to place a via inside a pad in a Cell, via under pad must be enabled in Editor Control and the via must have the same net as the pin. The only nets that may be assigned to a via are the nets that are on the pins of the cell itself. If pin 1 is where you want to place the vias in the pad and pin 1 is net Net-1, place all of the vias needed using Edit > Place > Via and assign the netname of the via to Net-1.

Cannot place via in pad:
Via pad is same size as pin pad
Workaround: In Editor Control - Pad Entry, remove the selection for 'Keep via pad inside pad'
