Summary

Running Valor NPI as a stand-alone server. Running Valor NPI in Database mode. After logging into a VPN, Valor NPI will not start, giving the error message "gen_com-5009-Socket connect problem".

Details

Logging onto a VPN can change the computer's IP address, which will cause the GND (ran by the Valor GND Server) to be unreachable.

  • This is usually because the IP address of the computer is changed when logging onto a VPN.
  • Look in the files gend_global and gend_local in the path %VALOR_DIR%\share\.comms. If they have the wrong IP Address, do the following:
    1) Stop the Valor GND Server using Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools from the Windows Start Menu
    2) Remove the files gend_global and gend_local.
    3) Check the path %VALOR_DIR%\share\.locks and make sure no Lock file exists.  It is called gnd_lock_file and you should remove it if found.
    4) Restart the Valor GND Server and the gend_global and gend_local files should get created again with the new IP address.

If fail to restart the Valor GND Server,  please add the application program %VALOR_EDIR%\gnd\gnd.exe  under Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Defender Firewall\Allowed apps.

If there still is the same error when invoke Valor NPI, please uninstall the GND service using the script uninstallGND.bat and reinstall the GND service using the script installGND.bat in C:\MentorGraphics\Valor\vNPI_2311\edir\misc.
