Summary

Find out how to locate and adjust the BIL log files and log level settings for effective troubleshooting in a setup involving SIT BIL Components across multiple machines. Various log levels (DEBUG, INFO, WARNING, ERROR, FATAL) help in analyzing issues, with steps to modify these settings via the BIL Monitoring Tool.

Problem

Understanding how to access and manage log files for Batch Integration Layer (BIL) is crucial when addressing issues during setup and runtime. It is important to adjust log levels correctly to diagnose and resolve problems effectively without interrupting services unnecessarily.

Solution

Logs

  • Log File Distribution: Log files are spread across all machines with a SIT BIL Component installed. For comprehensive analysis, gather all logs rather than subsets.
  • Config Phase Issues: If issues occur during configuration, only the BILConfigurationTool log might be necessary.

Log Levels

  • Available Log Levels:
    • DEBUG
    • INFO
    • WARNING (Default setting)
    • ERROR
    • FATAL
  • Deeper Analysis Needs: The default WARNING level might not suffice for detailed analysis. For issue reports needing in-depth investigation, request DEBUG level logs. Perform initial error checks to determine if DEBUG logs are necessary.
  • Changing Log Levels:
    • Use the BILMonitoringTool's Log tab to select and change log levels via a dropdown menu.
    • The change applies without restarting services.
    • This action affects all BIL services across involved machines (Core, Client, Connector).
    • NOTE: Changes reset upon service restart. For recurring crashes or persistent issues, modify log levels via the BIL Configuration Tool and save those settings.

BIL Log Folder:

  • Provide BIL log files found at:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Siemens\BIL\LOG
  • This directory contains logs for BIL Batch Connector, BIL Core, and BIL Client components.
