For certain parameters, the “Find / Replace” feature enables users to search the entire model by parameter type and value, and replace the value(s) in bulk.
Example Scenario: “I want to remove all Item Numbers for the purpose of declassifying the model for distribution.”
STEP 1: Navigate to the Edit menu and select “Find / Replace.”
STEP 2: In the Find / Replace window, select the “Advanced” tab.
STEP 3: Decide if you want all search terms to match your inquiry or 1+ search terms to match, and select accordingly. Then select the green “+” icon to begin a new search inquiry.
STEP 4: A “New Search Term” dialog box will appear. Open the “Model Parameter” dropdown menu and select the parameter you wish to search by.
NOTE: To select multiple search parameters, repeat Steps 4-7 for each parameter.
STEP 5: Open the “Operator” dropdown menu and select the desired operator.
NOTE: The Operator options available vary depending on which Model Parameter is selected.
STEP 6: Input the desired search value in the “Value” textbox. In this example, leave it empty to search for all items with a non-empty Item Number value (a.k.a. with an Item Number).
STEP 7: Click “OK”.
STEP 8: Your selection and criteria now show in the “Search” table list. Select the line item (it will highlight blue) and click “Search.”
Now all items that match the search criteria will appear as a list in the righthand “Search Results” window.
STEP 9: Navigate to and select the “Replace” tab on the lefthand side of the Find / Replace window.
STEP 10: Notice, the Search Results from the previous step are already listed on the right. Open the top-most dropdown menu to select the model parameter you want to change.
NOTE: This parameter may differ from the original search parameter in Step 4, if desired.
STEP 11: Select which of the Search Results you want to update / change with a new value.
TWO OPTIONS: Select “Update All” to change the value of all listed Search Results (Alt. 1). OR. Individually select / deselect the desired Search Results to change (Alt. 2).
STEP 12: Input the new desired value in the textbox to replace the original value. In this example, input only a space “ “ (not including the quotation marks) to create a seemingly empty value, as if there is no Item Number input. This is necessary because it requires a minimum of one character, does not accept no input.
STEP 13: Click “Replace.” Now all the values for the selected Search Results have been changed to the new value.
STEP 14: Verify in the System Model that the changes were successfully made.
STEP 15: Click “Save All” to save the new content. OR. “Save As” to create a copy of the model file with the changes, so not to overwrite the original.
