In this article, we review why modifications to Customer Defaults Solver Settings may not take effect as expected.
When performing FEA analysis, you may want to define particular solver settings to streamline your workflow. For example, you may want to:
- Automatically output specific types of results (e.g. always request contact results or strains)
- Run analyses in parallel (e.g. set ‘parallel = 4’, or specify another number of cores)
- Specify the solver path (e.g. you work with another solver such as Abaqus, and have to define its executable file location)
To avoid setting these parameters each time you create a new analysis, you can adjust the solver settings in the Customer Defaults section (File menu > Utilities > Customer Defaults). However, there could be situations where these modifications might not appear to take effect. These are some possible reasons:
1. Simcenter 3D Restart Required: After modifying customer defaults, you need to close and reopen Simcenter 3D for the changes to take effect.
2. Changes Apply Only to New Solutions: The modifications will only apply to new solutions created after the changes. For example, if you had already created a Nastran solution before adjusting the customer defaults, this existing solution will not be affected. Only newly created solutions will use the updated settings.
