Summary

How can a high number of inner fluid-contacting faces belonging to a component be selected for Local Mesh settings? Local Mesh settings does not have face a face filtering option like e.g. Surface Goal - how can a high number of faces of a component effectively be filtered and selected anyway? Is there a way to effectively filter and select a high number of faces of a component to be selected into selection boxes of Simcenter FLOEFD features? It is a very time-consuming and annoying process having to manually select each of the many desired faces manually - Is there a more convenient, more effective way?

In the context of the above questions, this video in this article provides some information and solution with regard to this topic. The exemplary intention in the video is about how to effectively select the high number of inner fluid-contacting faces of the left "Side" component of the Ball Valve Tutorial Example to apply some Local Mesh settings using the Equidistant Refinement option. As the Local Mesh settings do not come with any face filtering/selection functionality at all, the face filtering functionality of a corresponding Surface Goal will be used instead. This Surface Goal will then be used to make the desired filtering and selection of the component's faces possible.

Of course the shown process could also be applied in context of other, similar applications/functionality in Simcenter FLOEFD.
