Simcenter Madymo restart function allows users to run the occupant/pedestrian safety assessment simulations with valuable time reduction. In this articles we would discuss how to setup the model to achieve it.
General:
Madymo Restart functionality allows the user to continue a Madymo run from particular points in time. This functionality helps user to reduce overall simulation time in safety assessment studies. Below are the main steps described to apply restart.
Step 1:
Restart function requires binary files which contains complete record of the model. Set the time interval in TIME_STEP_RESTART. This will store the simulation state dumps into the .rst file when the simulation model is run.
Step 2:
For a restart analyses a input file needs to be created with root element MADYMO_RESTART. The restart template can be loaded within XMADgic by File-> "New..."
Select "MADYMO _RESTART" and the appropriate solver version and press "OK".
Note: The template file is stored in the installed directory C:\Program Files\Madymo\madymo_2406\share\etc "template_restart.xml".
Step3:
The user can specify the time of restart within CONTROL_RESTART. The user can also modify the values of various xml attributes in the restart file by using "Override elements".

Step 4:
Once the restart model is created, the restart run can be submitted as:
madymo_solver -rst model.rst restart_file.xml
Note: Select the .rst file that is created in the initial run.
Remark:
Appendix H of the reference manual describes the restart topic in general
