If you are looking to convert results that you have run with a periodic geometry to the full geometry you can use a volume or surface data mapper with the Idealization Transform.
If you are looking to convert results that you have run with a periodic geometry to the full geometry you can use a volume or surface data mapper with the Idealization Transform.
To be able to convert a periodic solution to a full geometry for use as an initial condition or to map to a geometry from another CAE software you can use the Idealization Transform of a data mapper. The steps required are outlined as follows.
For demonstration purposes a simple periodic geometry was created, and I am looking to take the pressure from the periodic geometry and map it to a patterned mesh in STAR-CCM+.
As this example is mapping volume to volume you need to create a Volume Data Mapper. Right click on Data Mappers in the Simulation Tree and select New Data Mapper. If you want to map surface data to an external CAE mesh you can use a Surface Data Mapper.
In the Data Mapper Properties for Source Volumes select the Region of the Periodic Geometry. Choose Cell for the Source Stencil and the Scalar Functions of interest.
The Target Specification is where you wish the data to be mapped to. In this example I have three new meshed geometries in Region 1, note I am also mapping the data to the original region Body 1.
The important option change for the Data Mapper is for Target Source Transform to be set to Idealization Transform.
Right click on the Data Mapper and select Map Data. You now will have a field function across the whole domain.
