In this article we try to show when the Maximum Allowable Pressure parameter does affect our simulation and when it doesn´t.
Details
In STAR-CCM+ one can set-up the Maximum Allowable Pressure under Continua > Reference Values. This parameter only affects the simulation, in case we have compressibility present in the simulation (for example User Defined Equation of State).
In a compressible flow, there are chances possible where the density becomes negative. For this reason, the pressure correction is limited based on the tendency of it to cause negativity in density. When such pressure is limited, the STAR-CCM+ solver warns the user about pressure correction being limited. During this limiting process, the pressure limits are enforced. This procedure of pressure limiting is not present when the flow is incompressible, because there is no tendency of the density to become negative in this case.
