Summary

This article provides the user with a Simcenter Madymo demonstrator model with the focus on a parametrized belt height adjuster model only, typically mounted on the vehicle body. The positioning in the vehicle as well as the design parameters are defined as a set of predefined variables which can be easily modified by the user.

Details

The height adjuster model consists of three main parts:

  • the rail; rigidly fixed to the vehicle body
  • the latch; can be vertically set to the desired position and remains locked in place
  • the D ring; articulated in rotation, perpendicularly to the rail. The D-ring can be set to LOCK or FREE state for the simulation. A body (DRing_BeltConnection_bod) is provided to make reference to an already existing point object MB as well as a point object MB (DRing_BeltConnection_pob) to directly create a new belt. Both are located in the middle of the D ring opening.

The model is defined as a separate SYSTEM.MODEL so that it can be easily swapped with another one. The positioning and design parameters as well as the initial settings are listed under the GROUP_DEFINE of the SYSTEM.MODEL of the height adjuster. The parametrized model is saved as an include for convenience.

Note: The mounting location is defined as the middle between the upper and the lower locked position on the rail.

For the positioning, the user can defined from which body the model will be positioned, the coordinates of the mounting location and its orientation. Among the design parameters, the user can define the total adjustable height, the number of locked positions, the position of the pivot on which the D ring is articulated and the position of the belt slot w.r.t the pivot point in which the belt is routed and finally the friction* in the D ring.  For the initial settings, the user can define the initial orientation of the D ring, the initial position of the latch and if the D ring is allowed to freely rotate and remains locked during the simulation.

*the user defines the friction as a static resistive torque. The dynamic resistive torque is automatically preset as 0.8 times the static resistive torque
