It your buttons in the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ tab in NX are greyed out and you don't get the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Client for NX pop up window follow the steps below to figure out what the issue could be.

1. Check the definition of the Environment Variable UGII_CUSTOM_DIRECTORY_FILE. It should be pointing to the custom_dirs.dat file in the installation.

2. Check custom_dirs.dat file and make sure the appropriate line is uncommented based on what version you are running.

3. Restart NX and check if the icons are still greyed out and the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Client for NX pop up window is missing. If yes go to File > Help > Log File and open the Log file.

In the Log file search for UGII_CUSTOM_DIRECTORY_FILE and make sure it shows the same file path you specified in step 1. When that looks correct search for the dll file based on the version selected in step 2. For the example in this article we search for StarNX2212.dll.

4. Is the dll file (for example StarNX2212.dll) missing in the log file in step 3? If yes that suggests that you are missing the file in your installation. To fix this you will need to rerun the installation for Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Client for NX. 

If you at any step start to get the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Client for NX pop up window(see below) you should continue your troubleshooting by addressing any error message that gives you.
