Femap

Summary

The purpose of this article is to discuss whether this is possible.

Details

Femap contains a Shape - Section Property Generator.  This convenient graphical cross-section property generator is available for one-dimensional elements such as rods, bars and beams.  Femap can automatically compute the cross-section properties and stress recovery locations for common or arbitrary shapes.  Such cross-section properties include the area, moments of inertia and torsional constant.

Q the first moment of inertia or statical moment is used in the equation shear stress = VQ/It.  It would be useful if Q could also be computed.  However unfortunately this is not possible at this time.
