This tutorial shows how to go about setting up a structural analysis using an Assembly FEM in Simcenter 3D. The aim is to introduce the user to the power of Assembly FEMS and familiarize them with the approach and concepts involved.

Part 6 - Create Glued contacts to the Bridge assembly
Step 16: Set the Edge Region for Glued Contact
•Click Region in the Loads and Conditions group of the Home tab tool ribbon
•Set the region to Edge Region
•Set the selection filter (usually in the top right corner) to Polygon Edge
•Orientate the model as depicted and click and drag the left mouse button to form the red block depicted over the top left corner of the bridge as depicted in the adjacent image
•Continue to make selections using the red blocks as a guide
Step 17: Setup the Edge Region for Glues Contact
•This procedure will select some edges that should not be included in the region. The edges that should be included are depicted in orange in the image below. To remove the other edges from the selection hold in Shift and left-click on the edge. Note that the edges to be removed tend to run longitudinally and be relatively lengthy
•Click OK
Step 18: Setup the Surface Region for Glued Contact
•Click Region in the Loads and Conditions group of the Home tab tool ribbon
•Set the region to Edge Region
•Set the selection filter (usually in the top right corner) to Polygon Face
•Select all the faces in the model with which an edge (selected in the previous step) would be connected if the structure were welded together
•Click OK
Step 19: Setup Edge to Surface Gluing
•Click Simulation Object Type in the Loads and Conditions group of the Home tab tool ribbon
•Set the region to Edge-to-Surface Gluing
•Select the edge region created in Step 17 from the Edge Region drop-down list
•Select the surface region created in Step 18 from the Surface Region drop-down list
•Set the Search Distance (BGSET) to 10mm
•Click OK
