Summary

In this article, a cylindrical pressure vessel will be analyzed using the axisymmetric analysis capability in Simcenter 3D. This is Part 6 of 6 parts tutorial with the following steps: Part 1: Create pressure vessel geometry Part 2: Mesh the created pressure vessel model Part 3: Apply material properties Part 4: Apply boundary conditions Part 5: Create cylindrical coordinate system for the FEM Part 6: Analysis run and post processing

•Left click on Solution 1 in the Simulation Navigator and select Solve
•Click OK
•Once the Analysis Job Monitor reports that the analysis has completed, click Cancel on that window and then close the Information window

Step 17: Post the Results

•Expand the Results item in the Simulation Navigator
•Double click on the Structural Item
•Expand the Structural item in the Post Processing Navigator and double click on Displacement – Nodal
•Click on Edit Post View        and select the Result tab
•In the Coordinate System section choose Selected Cylindrical from the drop-down list
•In the Resource Bar (on the left side) select the Simulation Navigator tab (usually the top icon)
•Select 1 – csys In the Simulation Navigator under the CSYS node
•In the Resource Bar select the Post Processing Navigator tab (usually the icon second from the top)

Step 18: Post the Results

•Select the Display tab in the Post View menu
•Set the Edges to Feature
•Select the Deformation tab
•Set Scale to 1 Absolute
•Click OK

Step 19: Examine the Displacement Results

Step 20: Post the Von-Mises Stress Results

•Double click on Stress – Element-Nodal. The result displayed will be the von-Mises stress
•Click on Edit Post View         and select the Result tab
•In the Axisymmetric Result section click on the Set Axisymmetric Result  button
•In the menu that appears ensure that that Axis Of Origin is set to X-Axis and Display is 3D Model
•Set Start Revolve Angle to 0, End Revolve Angle to 270, and Number of Sections to 80
•Click OK
•Select the Legend tab and set the Legend Extremes to Specified
•Set Min to 0 and Max to 12 then click OK

Step 21: Examine the Von-Mises Stress Results

Step 22: Post the Radial Stress Results
•Expand the Stress – Element-Nodal node in the Post Processing Navigator
•Double click on XX
•Click on Edit Post View image.png   and select the Result tab
•Select the Legend tab
•Set Min to -5 and Max to 10 then click OK

Step 23: Examine the Radial Stress Results
