Simcenter 3D
Summary
Results stored in AFU files will appear as magnitude only plots in Simcenter 3D by default. This article will show how to plot the real results using the Complex Options dialog box.
Details
After exporting Simcenter 3D Motion results to an AFU file, the results can be plotted from the XY Function Navigator. However, the only the absolute value of the results will be shown.
The data in the AFU is correct when viewed in a list format, but it appears incorrectly in the plot. Solution: The default setting for plotting AFU results is set to “Magnitude Only” in the Complex Options. This can be changed by option in the Complex Options dialog box from two different locations, depending on in which viewport the plots exist. If the AFU results are plotted in the primary viewport, either replacing the model or in a divided window, the Complex Options dialog can be found in the Function Plot section of the Results tab:
If the AFU results are plotted in a separate viewport, the Complex Options will be found as the first option in the drop-down toolbar. If the first option is showing a different command, use the drop-down arrow next to the button to change this to the Complex Options button:
Once the Complex Options dialog box is open, use the drop-down menu to change the Plot option from Magnitude Only to Real Only.
Hit OK to close the dialog and the plot will update to show the positive and negative results.
