Simcenter 3D Solutions How to Install Simcenter AMESim & How to configure Simcenter AMESim RLM license on the Linux/Ubuntu Machine.

Summary

Linux is very less prone to virus attacks, hence some of the organizations are using Linux from a security point of view. Installation of AMESim is a bit different compare to the window machine, however, AMESim is working in the same way as on the Window machine. This article will help you to understand “How to install and configure the AMESim on the Linux machine? Please check the video for more details.

Details

Pre-requisites

1. AMESim Setup – You can download the AMESim from our support portal. Setup files are the same for the window and Linux machines. Click here to see “How to download the set-up files from the support portal ?” This video contains information about software downloads.
2. All pre-requisites libraries should be installed upfront. You can find those required libraries in the installation manual. Check the section “Linux Pre-requisites”
3. GNU GCC compiler, if it is not installed.

Steps to install –

• Mount DVD 1. Open the DVD 1 and open the installation manual.

• Go to the  “Hardware and software requirements” section to know about the minimum system requirements.
• Go to the “Linux” section, and check the  “Linux pre-requisites” section. Make sure that, all libraries are installed on the machine before proceeding with the installation.

• To install the library, run the below command from the shell
  •  “sudo apt-get install libraryname”, where libraryname is the name of the library, which you want to install.

 

• After installation of the libraries mounts DVD 1 with any DVD mount tool. We are using the “furious mounting tool” to mount the DVD. This tool is available in the apps. You can download it from there.
• You can also manage to mount & browse the DVD from the terminal if you are familiar with Ubuntu or Linux.
• Now open the new terminal & Browse the DVD 1 path here.
• Run command ./Setup_lnx.sh

• It will start the setup. Just follow the instruction given on each screen. You may have received the key from Siemens. Please use the same key to run the setup.
• Wait till DVD 1 installation completes
• Eject DVD 1 and mount the DVD2 with the mount tool.
• Follow the same method to install DVD 2. Please note that you will not able to access the help file and Demos if you will not install DVD 2.
• Once, installation complete, then, you need to export the “AME” variable. The value of the “AME” variable should be till the “Amesim” folder inside your installation folder. You can save this.

To install the server on a Linux\Ubuntu machine, please follow the below steps. On Linux\Ubuntu, you may not require creating any environmental variable.

• Copy all the files from \LicensingTool\lnx to any folder on the Linux\Ubuntu machine (From DVD 1)
• Copy “lmstart” and “lmstop” in the same folder path as created in the above step.
• Rename your license file to “LMS.lic” and paste it into the same folder as created in step 1.
• Now Run “lmstart”
• Check, if the server is started – To check the server, open the link http://localhost:5054/home.asp
• If your system is not able to locate LMS_LICENSE correctly, then, you can export LMS_LICENSE=Path of license file.

Access the license on the same machine (Node-locked license or Access AMESim on the server machine itself 

• Open the new terminal and type the command “gedit .bashrc” This will open the bash file. Set below environment in the bash file.
• • #Set environmental variable for AMESim 2019.1
  • AME=/home/rts2de/simcenter/2019.1/Amesim
  • export AME
  • PATH=$AME:$PATH
  • export PATH
  • alias ame191=/home/rts2de/simcenter/2019.1/Amesim/AMESim

Access the license from the server machine (hostname – server01).

• Open the new terminal and type the command “gedit .bashrc” This will open the bash file. Set below environment in the bash file.
• • #Set environmental variable for AMESim 2019.1
  • export LMS_LICENSE=5053@server01    
  • AME=/home/rts2de/simcenter/2019.1/Amesim
  • export AME
  • PATH=$AME:$PATH
  • export PATH
  • alias ame191=/home/rts2de/simcenter/2019.1/Amesim/AMESim
• We have set the alias, hence you can open the AMESim from the terminal by running the alias name. For e.g. We have set alias ame191, which means, if you type “ame191”, then it will open the AMESim.

If, you are still not able to access the license by the above method, then, generate the diagnosis report and send it to our support engineer by raising the support case at this link . Please follow the below process to generate a diagnostic report.

Generate rlmdiag.txt file on server machine-

• open link http://localhost:5054/home.asp  it will open the server page.
• On the left side, click on the diagnostic tab

• It will generate the rlmdiag.txt file at the path given at the output location.

• Send the “rlmdiag.txt” file to me.

 
Generate RLMLOG.txt file on server machine-

• Click on the Status tab on the left side. It will open the main server page. On the right side, you will see the path for the debug file log. Here, you can see the “RLMLOG.txt” file.

• Send the RLMLOG.txt and rlmdiag.txt to Siemens Support.

 System Info Snap of server machine-

• Please also click on System Info Tab and send me the snap of the right side window.
