This episode of Simcenter TV Broadcast – STAR-CCM+ is about the application of co-simulations involving Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Nastran for hydro-elastic problems. A comparison is drawn between utilization of FSI methods available in STAR-CCM+ based on the solid stress model and coupling to the FEA suite Nastran. Opportunities and challenges are addressed. The use case looked upon in this study is a flat plate slamming into quiescent water, as encountered in many engineering problems like bow slamming of ships, vehicle wading or ditching of airborne craft.
