Details

This article describes the troubleshooting of potential issues with license installation and issues during Simcenter PreScan work.

Note: Use this troubleshooting, when you did all steps for installation. Articles for this exist too.
While we have two license systems, one to version 2020.1 and one for 2020.2 and upwards. It will be separately described in this article.

License to 2020.1

Following things can help to get the license working if random error occurs:
  1. It can happen that the license is wrongly created. In this case it is meant to check for the host and the MAC-address of the computer if Simcenter PreScan runs locally on your machine. You can find the host and MAC-address in the delivered license file opening in the text editor:  In the first blue line is the hostname and the second is the MAC-address, while the third is the port. You can check your host in the command prompt in Windows typing in hostname. For the MAC-address type the command ipconfig.

  1. In the next part it is needed to check the environment variable settings. There must be a variable named “MADLIC_LICENSE_FILE” with the value “26000@localhost”. 26000 is the port named in your license and localhost points to your computer. If it is a server, it would be another ip.
  2. Did you set up the correct license file path or did you move your license file to another location? Check in LM tools. User-added image

  1. Is the service for the license which you created with LMtools running? You can check this in the Task Manager tab “services”. You need to search for the name of the service which you had in LMtools. If it is not running, you need to stop or restart it. When it is running then normally start Simcenter PreScan again and check if Simcenter PreScan is working again. Sometimes a restart of the computer can help to get the service start, if It does not run. This is essential if this does not run permanently. Simcenter PreScan would not work. Another possibility is to use LMtools to stop the server and start it or do “reread the license file”.

  1.  (There is rare situation that other Software environment variables can cause interference and such as problems with the license of Simcenter PreScan. For this you need to check your last Software installed causing Simcenter PreScan not run anymore. Check the environment variable created from that software and delete it for testing. Then start Simcenter PreScan.)

License from 2020.2

For the new license system the difference is that with the “SPLMLicenseServer_v11.0.0_win_setup” tool the license is installed, which handles automatically all the LMtools tasks, setting up paths, service and all what is needed to have a running license.
After installation of the license, you will find all tools and license related things in the following folder: C:\Program Files\Siemens\PLMLicenseServer.

  1. In the next part it is needed to check the environment variable settings. There has to be a variable named “SPLM_TASS_LICENSE_SERVER” with the value “28000@localhost”. 28000 is the port named in your license and localhost points to your computer. If it is a server, it would be another ip.
  2. The third check is one important to see whether the automatically created windows service during license installation works correctly. For this you need to open the Task manager and search on the tab “services” for “SPLM_TASS_LICENSE_SERVER” and check if it is running. If it is not running, you need to stop or restart it. When it is running then normally, start Simcenter PreScan again and check if Simcenter PreScan is working again.
