Details

The Simcenter SCADAS Mobile is a modular front-end, this means that the acquisition module of one frame can be extracted and installed on other Simcenter SCADAS Mobile frames. The two main advantages of this modular concept are:
  • The flexibility in configuring a channel setup
  • In the unlikely event of a hardware failure, the possibility of replacing a faulty module instead of returning the complete system for repair exists.
Having said that, Siemens Digital Industry Software advises against replacing boards of the Simcenter SCADAS Mobile frames on a frequent basis. Replacements should be executed in accordance with the guidelines provided by Siemens DIS (see below) and using the dedicated extractor tool to avoid, during removal, damaging the electronics on the boards.

We therefore recommend you to only remove, replace or insert modules when:
  • Modules need to be swapped because they are defective
  • Additional modules have been purchased and need to be installed

  1. An allen-head wrench to unfix / fix the modules,
  2. A Simcenter SCADAS Mobile module extractor tool.
  Procedure:
  1. In case you are installing a new board, before installation, check if the received module has any damage due to shipment or handling. If you believe the module is damaged, interrupt this procedure and get in touch with Simcenter Customer Support
  2. Switch off the power of the Simcenter SCADAS Mobile and remove the external power adapter to prevent accidental damages.
  3. Use the allen-head wrench to remove the screws which secures the module
  4. Use the Simcenter SCADAS Mobile extractor tool to remove the old module with care in order not to scratch components. Best to use your thumb to slowly press the module out. Applying a little upward force to protect the components on the solder side
  5. Install the new module, and secure the screws.
  6. Connect the external power adapter, switch on the power of the Simcenter SCADAS Mobile unit and check on proper functioning.
Important:
a) Take care that you do not touch with hands the circuits inside module to avoid damages.

b) When the module is inserted back to the frame, make sure that both screws are put back to have the module rightly held in place. Module screws are also necessary for the grounding of the system.
