This article describes how faculty members in academic institutions can get access to Simcenter STAR-CCM+
If you want to use Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to educate students and your academic institution doesn’t carry a license, you can apply for a one-year in-kind grant and then continue at a highly reduced fee. The process to receive the license is outlined below.
The in-kind grant solution is provided through the Siemens grant application program. Once accepted into the program, you will can take advantage of the in-kind offer for one year.
The following principal steps need to be taken in order to receive this option:
After the first year, it is possible to purchase a highly discounted academic license solution to continue your access to Simcenter STAR-CCM+. This license solution comes at a fixed price irrespective of the type, or number of licenses needed.
Take the following steps to continue with a suitable license arrangement:
There are currently two academic license options available. One is the ‘Simcenter STAR-CCM+ academic pack’ which is of a “locally hosted license” type, containing a standalone license and all possible add-ons and features that come as additions to the standard commercial version of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ installation. It also covers parallel computing capabilities. This option is mainly suitable for those who need any of the more specific capabilities covered by the add-ons, or (for lack of internet access) can’t reach the cloud license server.
The other option is a cloud-based license access solution for the standard commercial version of Simcenter STAR-CCM+, without the available add-ons of the academic pack. This license option uses what is called a Power-on-Demand (PoD) license key and is named the ‘Simcenter STAR-CCM+ academic Power on Demand’. The PoD key basically allows for total flexibility in combinations for number of software seats and number of cores, up to the limit of the PoD key which is 99 999 CPU hours. This option is the optimal solution for most CFD-focused multi-physics simulation needs.
It should be noted that any combination of these two options can form your license solution. Siemens will work with you to figure out the best solution based on your academic needs.
